The Ampeg GSC-12R is the "Golden Glo" variant of the Reverberocket III series: a factory finish and cosmetic configuration so rare that one of the only other photographs of this specific model found online is a vintage store listing with a $3,795 price tag and a handwritten note from the dealer: "Rarest Ampeg we've seen." That documentation is on file in the Cynaptic Audio build record. There is no other GSC-12R currently for sale anywhere, last seen over 3 years ago. Of course, this amp has the sound to back it up.

The Amp

The Reverberocket III is Ampeg's late-1960s take on the American combo: onboard spring reverb with tube-oscillated echo, onboard tremolo, and a 7591 power tube pair driving a single 12-inch speaker. The GSC-12R "Golden Glo" distinguishes itself with the edge-lit acrylic faceplate, the distinctive wood-grain laminate panel, and a copper control strip; cosmetic details that make it immediately identifiable as something other than a standard Reverberocket. Most people who encounter one have never seen one before. Cynaptic Audio currently holds the most comprehensive known documentation of this variant in existence.

Restoration by Cynaptic Audio

This amp was fully bench-restored and is 100% operational. Every circuit has been tested, verified, and documented. A complete build report is published below.

  • New MOD 4FB3A1B reverb tank: period-correct form factor, properly matched to the circuit

  • Up-specced oscillator capacitors : .20µF Orange Drop and .22µF Mallory at 600V, exceeding original spec for long-term reliability

  • Radial Siemens/Rubycon electrolytic capacitors throughout

  • New filter capacitors, power supply fully rebuild and stable

  • LED conversion on the edge-lit "Golden Glo" faceplate

  • Original Ampeg footswitch with new switches installed and custom hand-wound braided cable

All original tubes, output and power transformers, and speaker are present and fully functional.

Condition

Cosmetically vintage-honest. The tolex shows age-appropriate wear consistent with a 60-year-old amp that has been used and cared for. The copper control panel carries natural patina. The grille cloth is original with no tears. Nothing has been refinished or cosmetically altered, this is a working piece of American guitar amp history.

Provenance

The complete documentation package: reference materials, restoration records, photographs, and performance benchmarks which all transfers with the amp
